Rejection is Redirection

Rejection is Redirection

Hello!!

How are you doing today?

I’m writing to you on an unseasonably warm October day, completely captivated by the breathtaking tree just outside my window. Its leaves transition from vibrant red at the top, to a warm orange in the middle, and finally to a lush green at the base–a beautiful reflection of the changing seasons. The transition from summer to fall fills me with awe. There’s something so graceful and serene about the way nature slows down, preparing for quiet rest. This season gently reminds us that as we release what no longer serves, we create space for what truly does. In the process of letting go, we welcome change, growth, and renewal into our very being.

I feel so grateful for this season, as it encourages me to slow down, breathe, and take stock of what’s happening internally–checking in with my thoughts, feelings, emotions, and beliefs.

Lately, I’ve found myself in a state of contraction.

In a previous newsletter, I discussed how we experience seasons of expansion and contraction. Expansiveness captures those moments when we feel open to exploring new opportunities, ready to receive, and eager to connect with others. On the other hand, contraction invites us to turn inward, creating space for self-inquiry and reflection. Both expansion and contraction are essential as we navigate this beautiful journey of being human.

During these seasons of contraction, I often turn to journaling as a way to express my thoughts and emotions on paper, allowing whatever comes up to flow freely. I find comfort in listening to relaxing piano music paired with gentle rain sounds, which creates a calming atmosphere as I journal. Participating in guided meditations, body scans, and somatic movement practices invites me to reconnect with my body in a gentle and mindful way. I also incorporate self-love affirmations into my morning and evening rituals. This practice helps nurture a mindset of unconditional love, acceptance, and gratitude. Together, these practices help me navigate this introspective phase with both grace and compassion, reminding me that even in this time of contraction, I am still growing, healing, and evolving. It might feel like I’m static, but there’s a lot of internal and beautiful healing unfolding within me.

The other day, I heard an affirmation that deeply resonated with me: rejection is redirection. The moment I heard it, I felt some interesting sensations in my body. Instead of pushing them down, I decided to explore these sensations with curiosity and compassion.

As I reflected on moments I’ve experienced rejection, I felt a heaviness in my solar plexus, which is linked to personal power, confidence, and self-worth. I also sensed a wave of sadness and loneliness in my heart as I thought about those moments.

As these feelings surfaced, I placed one hand on my heart and the other on my solar plexus. I took a few deep breaths, sending love and compassion to those areas. I reminded myself that these feelings will pass and that all I needed to do was sit with them, giving them the space to be acknowledged and felt. Afterwards, I wrote in my journal about what came up for me, and followed this practice with a self-care activity that felt welcome in my body.

Let’s face it–rejection sucks! It hurts!

When I experience rejection, my mind often spirals into thoughts like, “What’s wrong with me?” or “Why don’t they like me?” In those moments, my self-worth takes a hit, and I find myself questioning my value.

Now, what if I shifted my perspective to see rejection as redirection instead?

Could that rejection be guiding me toward a more fulfilling path, one that aligns more with my values?

Perhaps there’s a valuable lesson hidden within the experience–something that may reveal itself in time.

This experience could also serve as an opportunity to turn inward, inviting me to explore different aspects of myself, including my thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and core beliefs.

Maybe the rejection is nudging me toward further growth and self-development.

It could serve as a gentle reminder to embrace the art of surrender, trusting that things will unfold as they are intended to.

This affirmation has brought me a sense of inner peace and comfort, reminding me that rejection could be clearing the way for something truly amazing–whether it’s a new opportunity, a lesson to learn, inner healing and growth, or an opportunity to surrender and let go. Perhaps all of the above! Who truly knows!

Maybe this affirmation resonates with you, or maybe it doesn’t–and that’s okay!

I encourage you to take a moment in your day to listen to self-love affirmations. As you repeat the affirmations, notice which ones truly land, the ones you feel deeply in your body. Whether spoken aloud or in your mind, you may notice sensations arising–thoughts, emotions, images, and/or beliefs. Trust that your body knows which affirmations will provide the support, comfort, love, and encouragement you need on your journey.

Speaking of affirmations, today’s Somatic Meditation for Emotional Release practice welcomes you to explore an affirmation that resonates with you.

This meditation practice includes a variety of strategies to gently support the release of emotions from the body, offering love and compassion to the sensations that arise. Sometimes, this alone is enough to allow emotions to surface and be expressed.

You may even experience an emotional release following the practice, especially if you choose to journal about what came up for you.

Even if an emotional release doesn’t happen, that’s okay. There’s no goal or objective to achieve in somatic practices. Instead, the invitation is to meet yourself where you are and extend compassion to yourself throughout the process.

Many of us have been taught, either explicitly or implicitly, to suppress emotions, so it may take time for your body to feel safe enough to feel and release the emotion. This is why it’s called a practice. Trust that this is a part of the healing process. Emotional release will come in time.

You are welcome to return to this practice whenever it serves you best.
